How we keep a cabin from failing in Riau's climate
Five layers from outside in: board, mineral wool, a taped foil sheet, an air space, then cedar. The foil and the air space are what keep the corners of a Riau cabin pale instead of black a few wet seasons later.
Every heater gets heat-resistant SiHF cable, its own breaker and an ELCB. Recent Panam developments often already sit at 7,700–11,000 VA; on an older meter you either upgrade or go infrared at 1.7–2.4 kW.
Tap and borehole water both arrive hot in this city. Tank size, room heat and how many people use it decide whether you need a ½ or a 1 HP chiller to hold 3–15 °C through the afternoon.
Inside: western red cedar, Scandinavian spruce or thermowood, on aspen or abachi benches. Ulin and bengkirai stay outside on the decking, and any cabin standing in the open gets a proper roof over it.
Why more heat still makes sense in Riau's climate
Two degrees north of the equator, Pekanbaru runs 30–34 °C through the day at 80–90 % humidity — so the obvious question is why anyone here would pay for more heat. Sequence answers it. Take the cold plunge first thing, right after a set at a gym on Jalan Sudirman or a lap of the stadium; save the dry cabin for evening, once the outside air has finally dropped to 24–25 °C and the body is willing to sweat properly. Run it in that order and both fixtures earn more use here than they would somewhere cool.
Haze changes the calculation further. Peat and plantation fires between June and September push Riau's air quality into unhealthy territory for days running, and outdoor sessions stop dead. A cabin and a plunge under your own roof keep the routine alive regardless of what the sky is doing outside — the cabin simply pulls its air from an air-conditioned room instead of the yard.
The housing stock plays its part too. Palm oil, refining and oilfield-service income built generous plots across Panam and Marpoyan Damai — 200–400 m², usually with an unused side terrace or a bare flat roof — and the newer clusters there were wired for 7,700–11,000 VA rather than the 2,200 VA typical of an older Sukajadi house. Add the plantation guest houses and staff messes out toward Duri, where a worn-out club-house cabin is often already parked in a corner waiting for a rebuild, and Riau turns out to hold more of this work than most people assume. Two workable routes. Go infrared and the cabin draws 1.7–2.4 kW, which sits comfortably inside 5,500 VA. Or apply to PLN yourself for a bump to 7,700 VA and take the standard four-person, 6 kW cabin. A 3.6 kW two-person build also runs on 5,500 VA, as long as that room's air conditioning stays off while the heater is on.
Our supply cuts out sometimes — does the sauna need backup power?
Only if you want a session to survive an outage. A sauna heater pulls its full load in one hit, so on a generator or a shaky feed we size the genset and add a stabiliser to the quote up front, rather than let a heating element take the hit later. The same load-and-soft-start check we run for camps near Duri applies to any house with an unreliable connection — it is a line in the survey, not a separate visit.
Can a company order several cabins for one compound or office campus?
Yes, and it comes up often for staff housing and corporate compounds near the refineries. We spec one cabin, price it per unit, then install to the same standard at every address, which keeps servicing simple afterwards: one parts list, one technician route. Will you travel out to Duri or Dumai?

A structural warranty for two years from us, plus one to two years of factory cover on the heater itself. Our technicians are based in Marpoyan Damai and keep Harvia and Sawo spares on the shelf, so a part swap never waits on a flight from Java.
