What does a dry sauna for a Pekanbaru house look like?

Four adults, a 2×2 m footprint, two bench levels so you can pick your heat, an 8 mm tempered glass door and a heater on a bed of stones: that is where most enquiries settle. The cabin is a room within a room, so it drops onto a side terrace in Panam, into a spare downstairs bedroom in Marpoyan Damai, or into the corner of a club house near Duri without anyone touching the structure around it.

Smaller and larger versions run off the same build. A two-person cabin at 1.5×1.2 m with a 3.6 kW heater suits a townhouse in Bukit Raya. Six- and eight-person cabins at 8–9 kW suit a gym on Jalan Sudirman or a plantation guest house that has to take a whole shift at once. Whichever size you choose, the wall build-up and the ventilation are identical, because that is not where anyone should economise.

How much power does a dry sauna need on a Pekanbaru meter?

Electricity decides the cabin before the timber does, which is why we ask for a photo of the PLN meter on day one. A 6 kW heater for a four-person dry sauna wants 7,700 VA; 8–9 kW for six or eight people wants 11,000 VA; the ten- and twelve-person cabins move to three phase. Newer clusters in Panam and Tenayan Raya are frequently on 7,700 VA already, which is one of the quiet advantages of building in this city, while older houses around Sukajadi and the centre sit on 2,200–5,500 VA.

If the meter is small there are two honest routes: apply to PLN for an upgrade, which is the owner's application and the owner's cost, and we wait for the new supply before the test heating; or drop to a 3.6 kW two-person cabin that lives inside 5,500 VA. Where neither works, an infrared cabin at 1.7–2.4 kW does. Every heater we fit gets SiHF heat-resistant cable, its own breaker and an ELCB.

Timber, benches and the wall that keeps mould out

Inside: western red cedar, Scandinavian spruce or thermowood, with aspen or abachi benches because those stay cool enough to sit on at 90 °C. Ulin and bengkirai are fine local timbers but they belong outside, on decking and steps, not against your back. Behind the cladding sits the part nobody sees — panel, 50 mm rockwool, an aluminium foil vapour barrier, then a 20 mm vented gap. In a city that runs at 80–90 % humidity, a cabin built without that foil and that gap looks perfect at handover and is black in the corners two or three years later.

Ventilation is the other half: a supply vent low beside the heater and an adjustable exhaust high on the opposite wall, so the room turns its air over while you sit in it. Handover is always a test heating with you present, and the structure carries a two-year warranty. Frequently asked questions

How long does the build take from first message?

Two to four weeks on site once the material lands, plus one to two weeks of supply time while the heater is ordered and trucked from Java. Survey to itemised quote is usually under a week.

Can the cabin stand on an open terrace?

Only under a roof. Sun and driving rain age an unprotected cabin quickly, so an outdoor build gets a roof, a raised base and hardwood decking. That version is on the custom and outdoor sauna page, indicatively IDR 80–150 million.

What does it cost to run each month?

Used three or four evenings a week, roughly IDR 200,000–500,000 a month on the PLN bill. Annual maintenance is light: the heater stones get checked and re-stacked, and the vents cleaned.

Can you replace the heater in an existing cabin?

Yes. A Harvia heater replacement at 6–9 kW, installed and tested with new cabling and an ELCB, is indicatively IDR 15–35 million. A full refit of a tired club-house cabin runs IDR 15–50 million; see the Duri club-house refit.
