Our dry sauna is a fixed timber room, insulated and vented for Riau's humidity, built around an imported heater that holds 70–90 °C at 10–20 % relative humidity. We fit them into houses across Panam, Marpoyan Damai and Rumbai, and into club houses along the Duri road. Indicative price IDR 60–120 million; two to four weeks on site.
What does a typical Pekanbaru dry sauna look like?
Most enquiries land on the same brief: four adults, a 2×2 m footprint, two bench heights so everyone picks their own heat, an 8 mm tempered glass door, and a heater bedded in stone. Because the cabin is a self-contained room built inside your existing structure, it drops onto a Panam side terrace, into a spare downstairs bedroom in Marpoyan Damai, or into a club-house corner near Duri without touching the walls around it.
The same build simply scales up or down. A two-person 1.5×1.2 m cabin on a 3.6 kW heater suits a Bukit Raya townhouse; six- and eight-person versions at 8–9 kW suit a Jalan Sudirman gym or a plantation guest house taking a whole shift at once. Whatever size you land on, the wall build-up and ventilation do not change — that is not where corners get cut.
What does a dry sauna actually ask of your PLN meter?
The electrics decide the cabin before the timber gets picked, which is exactly why a photo of the PLN meter is the first thing we ask for. A four-person cabin on a 6 kW heater wants 7,700 VA; six or eight people on 8–9 kW wants 11,000 VA; ten- and twelve-person builds move onto three phase. One quiet advantage of building here is that newer clusters in Panam and Tenayan Raya often already sit at 7,700 VA, while older houses around Sukajadi and downtown are usually still on 2,200–5,500 VA.
A small meter leaves two honest paths: file for a PLN upgrade — the owner's application, the owner's cost — and wait for the new supply before the test heating; or scale down to a 3.6 kW two-person cabin that fits inside 5,500 VA as it stands. Where neither suits, an infrared cabin at 1.7–2.4 kW does the job instead. Every heater we install gets heat-resistant SiHF cable, its own breaker, and an ELCB.
Timber choices and the wall you'll never see
Inside the room: western red cedar, Scandinavian spruce or thermowood, with aspen or abachi under you because those stay cool enough to sit on at 90 °C. Ulin and bengkirai are excellent local timbers, but they stay outdoors on decking and steps, never against bare skin. Behind the cladding sits the part nobody photographs: a board, a layer of mineral wool, a foil sheet taped at every seam and an open air space the wall can dry into. Skip that foil and that gap in a city running 80–90 % humidity, and a cabin that looks flawless at handover turns black in the corners two or three years on.
Airflow does the other half of the work: a supply vent low next to the heater, an adjustable exhaust high on the far wall, so the room's air keeps turning over while you sit inside it. Every handover includes a test heating with you present, and the structure itself carries a two-year warranty. Frequently asked questions
How often does the heater actually need servicing here?
Once a year is typical for a home cabin: stones checked and re-stacked, the element inspected, vents cleared of dust. A gym or clinic running daily sessions moves to a six-monthly visit instead, since the stones and door seal wear faster under constant use.
Does an outdoor cabin need different wiring from an indoor one?
The heater circuit stays the same — SiHF cable, dedicated breaker, ELCB — but an outdoor run gets weatherproof conduit and a properly sealed entry point where the cable meets the cabin. That comes on top of the roof, raised base and hardwood decking every outdoor build already gets.
We run on generator power some evenings — will that hurt the heater?
Not if the supply is sized and clean. A heater's electronics dislike a rough or undersized feed more than the element does, so on generator or unstable power we check the load, add a soft start and keep the ELCB on its own circuit rather than sharing one with other equipment. Mention the generator at survey stage and it goes straight into the spec.
Can you fit several identical cabins across one housing estate?
