What justifies the extra cost of a custom build?

A standard cabin does its job well; a custom one answers the actual room. A wide Panam plot with a shaded courtyard wants glass so the cabin reads as part of the garden. A converted downstairs bathroom in Marpoyan Damai wants a low door and a bench run that clears a beam. A plantation club house wants something that seats a full shift and shrugs off a decade of hard use. All three start the same way — a measured survey and a visualisation, not a page from a catalogue.

Where the budget actually goes is visible: 8 mm tempered glass, thermowood or wide-board cedar cladding, a backlit stone or slat panel behind the heater, aspen bench fronts with hidden lighting, and a controller you can start from your phone before you have even left work. Two glass walls look sharper but pull a bigger heater, and we price that openly rather than let it surface later. None of this touches the part that actually matters in the tropics — the insulated, foiled, vented wall still sits behind the cladding regardless of finish.

Where an outdoor cabin actually earns its place in Riau

Outdoor builds do well here simply because the plots allow it. A roofed cabin on a rear terrace in Panam, or facing the river on a Rumbai property, pulls the heat and the noise clean out of the house and sits naturally two steps from a cold plunge. The rules do not bend: a genuine roof with an overhang against driving rain and UV, a raised base so timber never sits in standing water, ulin or bengkirai decking, stainless fixings, and a covered path so nobody is crossing wet tile barefoot after dark.

For club houses and camp buildings out on the Duri road, we add what the site actually needs rather than what a brochure lists: a longer changing bench, a solid guard around the heater, and a generator spec with soft start wherever the estate runs its own power. Power, controls and what a bigger heater asks of your meter

Bigger cabins need bigger heaters — that is the honest part of this conversation. Six people on 8 kW wants 11,000 VA; eight people on 9 kW, the same; ten- and twelve-person cabins at 10.5–12 kW move onto three phase. Many of the newer large houses in Panam and Tenayan Raya already sit at 7,700–11,000 VA, so the step up is often just paperwork, while older properties around Sudirman and Sukajadi usually need a PLN application that the owner files and pays for.

Regardless of size, the electrical standard does not move: heat-resistant SiHF cable from the board, a dedicated breaker, an ELCB, a stainless heater guard, and a test with the ELCB tripped in front of you before we hand anything over.
